Role Summary :
The Senior IP Network Engineer shall be responsible planning the IP network enhancements, certifying equipment, creating appropriate documentation and support standardization across RGCOM infrastructure.
He/She shall recommend appropriate network topologies, architecture and designs for highest level of network resilience, and create appropriate node designs, infrastructure requirements specifications, documentation, and issue specific guidelines for implementations. He/She shall also audit the network configurations after implementation, to ensure compliance to design, identify and resolve any chronic issues and mitigate security risks.
Duties and Responsibilities :
The Senior Design Network Engineer shall be primarily responsible for Planning and Engineering the Global MPLS/IP Network through creating detailed POP or Network Node Designs (NDD), clearly identifying and documenting the equipment requirements, site and regulatory requirements for network upgrades or enhancements, network topology and connectivity requirements, capacity specifications, optimal list of certified materials and spares, funding requirements, and assist creating CARs, overall, in order to meet the business requirements.
The Senior IP Network Engineer shall standardize on equipment and technical specifications, and issue necessary equipment and configuration guidelines, processes, and write test cases and acceptance criteria if any newer equipment is proposed, and assist throughout for funding requirements to implementation.
On implementation, the person shall carry out audit and ensure compliance with design and implementation guidelines and initiate any corrective actions as necessary to ensure high reliability of the network enabling the desired services to be offered.
The Senior IP Network Engineer shall monitor network threats and identify any vulnerability, and take appropriate mitigation actions, applying security patches or firmware upgrades, configuration changes and filters as necessary on priority. He / She Shall monitor network performance, and analyze reported incidences, chronic issues, and identify root causes for any failures/degradation/SLA violations on regular basis, and initiate necessary measures to prevent any service degradations or failures in future. Shall carry out any customer migration plans on upgraded infrastructure as necessary. Shall analyze any reported incidences / chronic issues, and work as SME to handle escalations.
Shall develop/enhance internal and cross-functional processes and systems for improved efficiency and seamless delivery of all services to customers across RGCOM and partner entities.
Shall setup test setups / labs, and participate in lab and field testing of new technologies and equipment for interoperability, performance, stability, and scalability, test new services, and generate structured documentation as necessary.
Key Performance Indicators :
- Network performance: Service Uptime/MTTR/MTBF/Security events, SLAs (delivery time, RTD/Packet Loss/Jitter etc)
- New products / services tested and deployed, and acceptance in various markets
Additional Customer and revenue enabled
- Cost savings through consolidation of POPs/equipment etc
- Network expansion and coverage (POPs, Bandwidth, Partners/NNIs)
- Cost of delivering services (cost / mbps, cost / port), other Opex parameters, network capacity utilization and efficiency
Accuracy, timeliness and quality of designs, proposals, documentation, project implementations and reporting
Contact with Others :

Qualification & Experience :
|Educational / Academic Qualification
||Bachelor's Degree in Engineering related to communications or IT
|Professional Certifications / Additional Qualification
||JNCIE / CCIE, or equivalent certifications, routing/switching/service provider
|Desirable: ITIL, PMP
||5~8 years relevant experience with telecom carrier,
major systems integrator, or equipment vendor, in architecting, planning or engineering Global networks
Candidate Specification :
Extensive experience in service provider environment in planning and design of network.
Extensive hands-on experience in service provider environment in conceptualizing, planning and design of network infrastructure that provides mission-critical Voice/Video/Data-VPNs and Internet services. Excellent documentation and presentation skills.
Candidate shall be self motivated, result-oriented, and have excellent blend of technical knowledge, vendor equipment capabilities, Innovative solution design abilities, documentation skills, and understanding commercials required. Demonstrated level of maturity, and ability to lead from the front.
Technical/Functional Skills : ( Use “E” to denote Essential and “D” for Desirable)
Advanced skills on Juniper, Cisco, Redback/Ericsson or Alcatel Lucent carrier platforms, with excellent knowledge about the hardware and OS capabilities.
Excellent technical documentation skills - RFP, MOP, Processes, Tech-Specs, Test-cases etc.
Good knowledge and experience in implementation and troubleshooting of networks, IPv4, IPv6, RFC2547/IPSec VPNs, BGP/OSPF/IP Routing, network security, in-service router and OS upgrades, SONET/SDH, Ethernet variants etc
Good knowledge of relevant standards, routing and switching equipment, tools, industry trends, and enterprise managed VPN, WAN optimization, Security, and managed voice and video services.
The candidate shall have good research skills, an out-of-box thinker, and envision services of the future over various network platforms.
